Screwdriver Bit Sourcing FAQ

Use these questions to define the product, application and acceptance criteria before approving a sample or production order.

DEFINE THE FINISHED PRODUCT

Material & Performance

What is the difference between S2 and CR-V screwdriver bits?

S2 and chrome vanadium are alloy-steel labels, not complete performance specifications. Finished performance also depends on composition, heat treatment, geometry, hardness range, surface condition and the intended driver. Ask for the exact material and finished specification of the selected SKU, then compare samples in the target application.

Does a higher hardness number always mean a better bit?

No. Hardness can improve wear resistance, while excessive brittleness can increase chipping or fracture risk. The useful range depends on geometry, length, drive type and application. Confirm the target and test method for the selected product instead of relying on one universal number.

How should I verify an impact-driver claim?

Define the driver, fastener, substrate, duty cycle and failure criteria. Test the approved sample and retain it as the comparison reference for production. The word impact in a title is not a substitute for an application test.

SEPARATE MATERIAL FROM FINISH

Finish & Corrosion Control

What does a black phosphate finish do?

Black phosphate is a conversion finish commonly used on steel components. Its actual corrosion behavior depends on pretreatment, coating quality, oiling, packaging and storage. Confirm the finish and acceptance method for the exact product and shipping environment.

Is black phosphate always better than a titanium-colored coating?

No finish is universally better. Appearance, friction, corrosion expectations and substrate compatibility differ by product and market. Compare the declared process and sample result rather than choosing by color alone.

What should an export corrosion check include?

Agree on cleaning, protective treatment, packaging material, storage conditions and the inspection method. If the goods will travel by sea or enter a humid market, include the packed condition in sample approval.

MATCH THE TOOL, BIT AND FASTENER

Fit & Application

Why do screwdriver bits strip screw heads?

Common causes include the wrong drive type or size, worn geometry, poor alignment, excessive speed or torque, and a damaged fastener recess. Confirm that the bit profile matches the actual screw and test the complete driver-bit-fastener combination.

What bit length should I choose?

Choose the shortest length that reaches the fastener while keeping the driver aligned. Longer bits improve access but can increase sensitivity to runout and side loading. State the working depth and obstruction when requesting a recommendation.

Can PH2 and PZ2 be treated as interchangeable?

No. They are different drive geometries even though they can look similar. A mismatch reduces contact area and can accelerate cam-out and wear. Identify the actual fastener standard before selecting the bit.

Will a 1/4-inch bit fit every holder?

Nominal shank size alone does not guarantee retention or runout performance. Confirm the quick-change geometry, detent groove, socket depth and tolerance with the intended holder or chuck.

CONFIRM BY SKU AND ORDER

OEM, Samples & Ordering

What is the minimum order quantity?

Minimum order quantities vary by product, tooling, marking, packaging and material. The catalogue shows the current source record where available, but the final MOQ must be confirmed for the selected SKU and requested customization.

Can MOYOTEC add our logo and packaging?

Logo marking and packaging may be available depending on the selected product and order quantity. Send the SKU, artwork, marking area, packaging format and quantity so feasibility can be confirmed before sampling.

What should I send with an enquiry?

Include product or application photos, drive type, length, material or performance requirement, finish, quantity, destination, packaging and any inspection criteria. A target screw or drawing is useful when geometry or compatibility is critical.

How should a sample be approved?

Record the selected SKU, drawing or specification, sample date, measured dimensions, functional test and packaging. Keep an approved sample and written acceptance criteria linked to the production order.

How are lead time and payment confirmed?

Lead time and payment terms depend on the final specification, quantity, packaging and commercial review. Treat catalogue text as preliminary and confirm the final terms in the written quotation and order documents.

Still need an answer?

Send the screw, drawing, target product and quantity for a product-specific response.
